Need a game to keep your kid occupied on your next long trip?
A dozen top-rated IOS apps have gone free today — in anticipation of the Apple App Store’s fifth anniversary on Wednesday.
These dozen apps have a combined value of $70+.
Hat tip to TUAW.
A good find for travelers is the Day One app — a popular journaling application.
Of special interest to little travelers is the Barefoot World Atlas:
a magical interactive 3D globe that invites children to explore the regions and countries of the world, discovering hundreds of fascinating features and immersing themselves in the rich wonders of our planet.
The other apps include:
- Infinity Blade II
- Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP
- Where’s My Water?
- Badland
- Tiny Wings
- Traktor DJ
- Over
- Knots 3d
- How To Cook Everything
- LiquidSketch
- MapMyRide+
I personally can vouch for How to Cook Everything — a great resource from New York Times food writer Mark Bittman, as well as for Tiny Wings an award-winning, beautifully executed game.
Do any of these apps gone free catch your eye?
Thank you, thank you! Much appreciated, both to learn about this and have the handy links to each to see which I want. Just downloaded Day One and How to Cook Everything to my phone and am about to do so to my ipad as well. Also sent a link to your post to my family. Perfect timing for our upcoming trips. BTW, I just realized you are restonva of FT! Thanks again.
TWA44: Yup, restonva, that’s me on FlyerTalk. I set that account up before I had the idea of this blog. To be perfectly honest, the Fishing4Deals handle was inspired by this “Something Fishy” theme on WordPress. At first I thought I would write about travel and credit card deals for fisherfolk, and maybe I still will. Actually I don’t know much about fishing at all. Well, now that you’ve blown my cover, it’s fairly obvious that I live in Reston, Virginia, outside Washington, DC. Dulles International (IAD) is my closest airport. So give me a shout if you are ever out this way!
Oops, had no idea it was a cover. My apologies. You note in the About Me part of your blog about Reston. Feel free to delete that part of my comment if you prefer! I actually skipped your blog for months, thinking it was geared at fishermen (fisherpeople?) who collect points, the way there is a blog by a birdwatcher who is also a travel hacker.
I appreciate the feedback!
PS – Will you be updating the list or posting about other apps that will be also available free in the next days?
That is a very good idea. I’ll bet other high quality apps will go free Tuesday and Wednesday in light of the App store anniversary.
This is just an update to note that it appears that the free iPhone/IPad apps announced yesterday are the extent of the 5-year anniversary celebration at the Apple app store.
So that’s why the blogosphere has been silent on this this morning. Appreciate the update even if I had hoped for different news!
