With holiday season upon us, I’ve fallen behind on my postings. I do hope to get back in the swing of things with more updates on travel deals.
This contest closes Monday December 23 at 12 noon, Eastern time. A winner will be chosen at random.
What’s your favorite travel guide? Extra credit for sharing my blog with your friends via social media.
I always like Rick Steves information. He tries to stay informal and inexpensive. My kind of guy!
Rick Steves spoke at the travel show I went to — his focus that day was on travel to Italy and he shared some beautiful spots.
Fishing 4 Deals is my favorite travel guide!
Aww thanks.
[Hawaiian island] revealed: the ultimate guidebook have been my favorites
That series of guidebooks is extremely well done!
I usually use Lonely planet books, but I’ve been compiling my own word documents using info off the web before trips and I use those the most.
I like Lonely Planet too, but you have an interesting suggestion for more current information.
Just stumbled across your blog and really like it. Though not a travel guide per se I find Trip Advisor extremely informative . I do use Fodor’s as a travel guide.
Thanks Ola, you won the contest! TripAdvisor is great for the hotel reviews!
Arthur Frommer has been around forever, but still has good info. I first used his guide in Europe 30+ years ago, and they always provided good recommendations.
I heard Arthur Frommer speak at a travel show last year and he was an incredible font of information on budget travel destinations!
Local SIM card + Foursquare is the best travel guide I’ve found for places with active communities (Brazil and Turkey for example)
Thank you for this interesting suggestion!
I once was my sisters guide around NYC… via text! Good times!
Sounds fun! Thanks for your entry!
I’m a Fodor’s guy myself…supplemented with Yelp!
I like Yelp for restaurant reviews.
Rick Steves’ Italy guide turned out to recommend a place in Cinque Terre that I found independently. I saw Steves while I was there, and the owners of the rooms said he stopped by each year to update. So I’d say his is my favorite.
Interesting. You would think he has a large staff to do most of the research.
I really like the Lonely Planet series of books!
Another vote for Lonely Planet!
Favorite guide is Budget Travel Mag
Thanks for this suggestion!
